Healthy Vegan Friday: Tahini Banana Oats

Hi! Welcome to another Healthy Vegan Friday Post.  HVF is the fun link-up party hosted by Carrie @ Carrie On Vegan and Gabby @ The Veggie Nook. They added a new co-host this week, Katherine Natalia @ Green Thickies! Swing by and check out the assortment of healthy vegan foods if you're interested.  They get a lot of great posts every week.

My link up for this week is a hot breakfast item:  Tahini Banana Oats.  When it's cold out I usually start with a green smoothie then have some warm oats a few hours later.  I've been putting tahini in a whole lotta' everything lately.  It just tastes good to me, so I'm going with it.  If tahini's not your thing, feel free to sub almond butter or whatever nut butter suits your fancy.

Tahini Banana Oats

1/2 cup gluten free oats
1/2 cup almond milk
2 tablespoons tahini
sprinkle of cinnamon
stevia or sweetener of your choice to taste
sliced banana

Stir everything except the banana together and prepare according to your preference.  I have three ways to prepare oats:

1. Soak together overnight then eat cold or heat in the morning.

2. Combine in a pan over medium heat and cook until the oats are tender and the consistency has thickened.

3. Combine and put in the microwave (GASP!) for about 2 minutes until warm and thick.

Add sliced bananas and sprinkle more cinnamon on top.

I really love warm oats on cold mornings and the tahini makes them extra creamy.  The banana and cinnamon are a perfect compliment.  I could probably eat this every morning for a long, long time.

Any fun plans for the weekend?  You know me... I'll be hittin' the books :)

    1. This is also delicious with berries! Banana not necessary if your taste buds don't like 'em :)

  2. Yumm. I *love* tahini in my savory dinners, but I have a hard time imagining it in something sweeter, even though I know a lot of people do this kind of combo...That said, this sounds sooo delicious so I may have to give it a try sometime!

    1. I am a tahini-lover, too. But, it took me a while to give it a try in sweet dishes. I've found that I like it in the place of nut butters for almost anything. Smoothies, oatmeal, and pancakes are just a few examples. I've also had cookies made with tahini that were amazing. Once you decide to try it, let me know what you think. :)

  5. Oooh, I've never put tahini in oats before but I bet it would be awesome! I adore the stuff. And I usually go the overnight oats method...I love cold brekkie food! And yeah, it'll be a fun-filled weekend of study and homework over here. :)

  7. That used to be exactly how I started my days before having my baby, green smoothie followed by porridge, but I didn't have the time for the hot oatmeal anymore so that's why I invented the Green Thickie! Thanks so much for the mention too. I do however still have porridge when my husband is at home and we have more time so I'm going to have to give this a try. It sounds gorgeous!
